On November 7, 2006 we conducted a TriPac fuel consumption test. It is well known that a TriPac Auxiliary Power Unit can save you money by eliminating unnecessary idle time but when we put our TriPac Demonstation Trailer next to a 2001 Kenworth T-600 and compared the fuel consumptions, even we were amazed.
...6.5 hours after the start of the test....
The truck used 6.5 gallons of fuel (or 1 gal/hr). The TriPac APU used only .28 gallons total (or .043 gal/hr). At the US average diesel price of $2.957/gal, that's a savings of $2.83/hr. At close to $3/gal you can save over $20 in one eight-hour night!
